Tune in This Sunday, April 5, 2020
A note from Pastor Ted & Pastor Robin
Like most of you, the pastors and staff of our church have been paying close attention to the rapidly developing news regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. Throughout the course of the last few weeks, state and local authorities have mandated that we limit our physical proximity; however, we have done our best to rapidly create a number of resources to best function as a faithful, worshipping body in the midst of unprecedented circumstances.
We've determined to take the voluntary and extraordinary step of moving our Sunday worship services online for the time being. It's important to emphasize that we are not responding out of fear; God tells us in 2 Tim 1:7 that He has given us a spirit of power, love, and self-control. We believe this and want to live out of this. As shepherds of our people and good neighbors in our community, in love and care for our people and our neighbors -- especially those who are more vulnerable to the effects of COVID-19, like our older members and those with chronic health issues -- we need to take the necessary steps to keep them healthy and safe. There's still a lot we don't know about COVID-19, so wisdom dictates caution. Also, we want to demonstrate a biblical respect for the governing authorities which God has ordained for our good, in this case, for the preservation of life [Romans 13:4, Exodus 20:13]. We're not at all lone rangers in doing this -- we are aware of other local churches which are planning to do the same thing -- including our sister churches, Redeemer PCA, Encinitas and Resurrection Presbyterian Church.
While we are temporarily suspending our physical gatherings, we are NOT suspending our mission to worship the God of the Gospel. We will have a pre-recorded service that will include all the necessary elements of worship along with helpful links that will enable you to print out the full Sunday bulletin, participate in the giving of your tithes and offerings, and provide prayer requests. The video of the pre-recorded service will be available on our website and our phone app on Sunday. .
Worshipping virtually is a new experience for most of us, so we are committed to making appropriate adjustments in the weeks ahead to optimize and enhance this new format. With that said, we affirm biblical corporate worship and believe that nothing can or should ever replace worship where believers are gathered together, in person. What we are offering in the coming few weeks is a temporary compromise, not an ongoing convenience.
These are unusual times for us but not at all surprising to our King. As so many of us have experienced, God can and will use this current situation to build His church, both locally and globally, as our faith is strengthened and our witness is enlarged. May the love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control of the Spirit be the hallmark of New Life. Join us in praying for each other, for our neighbors, and for our community.
In His grip,
Pastors Ted and Robin
